Oatmeal and Cranberry

Simple and Cheap. Eat Oatmeal for breakfast whenever you can. I eat it around for 75% of my breakfast. Each meal costing less then 1$.

Why is this cheap meal good for you?

Protein


page2On Average, men need around 56 grams of protein, and about 46 grams of protein for women. 1/2 cup of oatmeal is equal to 5 grams of protein. If you eat 1 cup of oatmeal for breakfast, that literally is around 20% of your daily needed protein. It is important to note that oatmeal is not a complete protein. Like all grains, it is low in the amino acid Lysine. However, we do not need to eat complete protein foods in every meal. We can eat lysine rich food later on in the day. However if you feel like you want to have a complete protein breakfast. I recommend adding Okara (soy pulp) to your oatmeal.  I will write more about Okara another day. But supplementing Okara to oatmeal is not only cost-effective. It provides protein, fiber and more calcium to your diet. On avg. 100g of Okara = 3.2g protein.

Fiber


Oatmeal contains tons of fiber, and will provide you with energy for hours while keeping hunger at bay. A healthy diet does not have to be a mental struggle of feeling hungry and eating too little. Nor does it have to be a struggle of eating bland foods all the time, or even eating meat all the time. A breakfast of oats will lead to decrease cholesterol, decrease weight, better blood pressure, and softer stools. This leads to you feeling better than before. A healthy colon and a happy heart with heavier wallet is waiting for you at the end of every meal.

I won’t go into cranberry nutrition here because there isn’t much to say. The more cranberry you use. The more money you are going to spend on breakfast without getting much value. You don’t need to use a lot of it for a good tasting breakfast.

On sale, oatmeal is 4$ for 42oz at target.

For people with no car, no grocery stores nearby, amazon has a great deal on oatmeal over here.

1/2 cup oatmeal = 1 servings. 1 container contains 30 servings. I typically eat .5-1cup oatmeal a day. so.. lets just say we eat a lot each breakfast- 1 cup oatmeal a day. 4$ will feed us 15 breakfast. 26 cents a breakfast on oatmeal

At BJ, Cranberry- Ocean Spray Cranberry- 6.99$ a bag. 1/4 cup = 1 servings. 32 servings in a bag. honestly I don’t eat 1/4 cup each meal.. but if you like your oatmeal sweet. Well, why not? This turns out to be an additional 22 cents.

Oatmeal + Cranbery = 49 cents for a nutritional, healthy meal. It is more cheaper more healthy, more nutritious than any food prepared food you can buy.

Now you will get sick of eating this if you eat it everyday. You can switch out cranberry for raisins. Add Chia Seeds. or Flax seeds. I sometimes even mix it with Natto.

Equipment


If you are new to cooking? Do you literally have no cookware, I would suggest getting this pot . This is a stainless steel pressure cooker. It can serve a huge number of functions

  1. Use it as a regular pot
  2. Stir-fry in it
  3. Or use it as a pressure cooker
  4. Long lasting Good quality stainless steel pot.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t think too much. Make it, Eat it. Be healthier, Be richer, Guaranteed.
